Get dependable performance with high-torque, low-emission PowerTech™ diesel engines

Owners of 5EN Narrow Series Tractors can claim bragging rights to operating the most dependable engine on the market with John Deere’s extensive track record for building high-performance engines. Both tractors use John Deere designed and manufactured diesel engines and provide excellent torque, fuel efficiency, and durability. These turbocharged engines comply with Tier 2 emission standards.

John Deere designed and manufactured diesel engines provide excellent torque, fuel efficiency, and durability.

12F/12R PowrReverser™ transmission is ideal for demanding applications

The PowrReverser transmission provides 12 forward speeds and 12 (12F/12R) reverse speeds for operators requiring additional operating ranges for field work and other applications. The 12F/12R PowrReverser with shiftable 540/540 economy PTO is ideal for operators using their tractors to perform in demanding applications.

Hydraulic wet forward and reverse clutches maximize durability and will outlast the life of any dry clutch. When tractors are run by multiple operators with a variety of experience levels, a wet clutch is the best way to maintain transmission integrity and performance while decreasing clutch replacement costs.

Rear-mount selective control valves (SCVs) add versatility

A maximum of three rear SCVs can be field installed or factory installed to add versatility. Dual rear SCVs with lever controls come standard on 5EN Series Utility Tractors.

All rear SCVs are lever controlled and couplers are equipped with plug dust covers to prevent dirt and debris from entering the hydraulic system. This ensures the most reliable performance, allowing operators to get their work done.

Operators can couple and uncouple under pressure with the International Standards for Organization (ISO) push-pull couplers, which reduces the muscle required to switch implements. This allows the operator to effortlessly couple and uncouple hydraulic hoses from one implement to another.

The SCV and rockshaft valve can be adapted to provide live hydraulic power, power beyond, to implements with an independent control valve.

Save fuel in power take-off (PTO) applications with the 540/540 Economy PTO

The 540/540 economy PTO allows operators to select the optimal engine rpm needed for their PTO applications.

The economy position provides 540 rpm to the PTO at 1700 engine rpm. The 540 economy is ideal for any lighter-duty PTO application, from running a mower-conditioner, a baler or a cutter, where full horsepower is not needed.

Operating at lower engine rpm saves fuel during some tasks. The overall operating experience improves because there is also less noise and overall tractor vibration for the operator.

A lever allows the operator to change between 540 and 540E when conditions merit the opportunity to save fuel without affecting performance.

Mechanical front-wheel drive (MFWD) front axle provides traction on demand

The limited slip solution unlocks the true potential of the axle allowing for increased drawbar pull and improved traction, even when one tire does not have sufficient traction. This ensures the operator gets the required torque to the ground for the application demand and frees the tractor to break out of a potential rutty situation, leaving operators with cleaner fields and decreasing the need for pulling chains. The MFWD front axle also reduces wheel slippage with less tractor ballasting for reduced soil compaction, increased fuel economy, and longer tire life.

The MFWD centerline design provides excellent maneuverability around the worksite and more crop clearance so producers aren’t driving down their crop or profit. Additional versatility is proven when wheel treads are adjusted with six degree of caster angle and 55-degree turn angle, which results in a shorter turning radius and plenty of horsepower to turn around in tight places. The 10 degree of axle oscillation follows uneven terrain allowing for consistent performance and a comfortable ride.

Axle oscillation also reduces the stress and maintenance cost on the axle spindles because loads are consistently spread across the entire axle. The centerline design also eliminates the need for drive shaft universal joints that require regular maintenance. Three grease points are conveniently located to minimize maintenance time while maximizing front axle performance.

Convenient and easy-to-use controls

Color-coded control levers communicate a message to operators, are easy to recognize and are positioned for comfortable and convenient operation.

Unique to the 12F/12R PowrReverser™ transmission, high-low buttons are located on the gear-shift lever which allows operators to speed up or slow down with comfort and convenience. A foot throttle is located on the right side of the operator platform for convenient throttle adjustment by the right foot. Engaged by using the right heel, the differential lock pedal is also located on the floor.

The 540/540 economy PTO is selected with a shiftable lever and engaged with the PTO. The 540 electrohydraulic PTO is engaged with a push/pull button on the right-hand console.

Rear hydraulics are controlled by levers located to the right of the operator; there is one lever for each valve and these levers are color coded for convenience. The optional rear triple deluxe hydraulics include a selectable detent (continuous, auto-kickout, no detent) in the forward and back positions, as well as float on each valve.

Open operator station provides an open-air experience with deluxe seat and strategically placed controls

The 5EN Narrow Series Tractor operator station is designed to accommodate narrow tractor dimensions while maintaining operator comfort.

Large footrests and an uncluttered floor area give the operator plenty of room to get on and off the tractor as well as comfortably operate for hours.

The standard deluxe seat complements the convenient, easy-to-use controls for the best overall operating experience. The seat is suspended by two springs with a hydraulic dampener.

Enjoy the ride by adjusting the seat to the operator’s preference. By using a lever to the right and under the seat, the fore-aft seat adjustment brings the operator near the steering column or provides needed legroom.

Climate-controlled cabs achieve a smooth and quiet operating experience for increased performance

The operator of a 5EN Narrow Series Cab will appreciate the reduction in noise and vibration through the seat, steering wheel, and lever controls with a roll-over protective structure (ROPS) certified, factory-installed cab.

5EN Narrow Series cabs provide a clean, quiet environment protected from the elements including activated carbon filter. A powerful heating and air-conditioning system allows the operator to control the cab climate to preference, regardless of the conditions outside.

The cab’s side windows open forward for excellent ventilation. The left-side door opens wide for easy entry and egress. For excellent rear visibility, the 63-L (16.6-gal.) lockable fuel tank is located below the left-hand side of the platform. The rear window opens to 70 degrees, providing visibility to the operator when hooking up implements. An interior rearview mirror provides additional visibility.
